Today on My Overstuffed Bookshelf, I have Misha from My Love Affair With Books! Let’s sit back and take a peek at her bookshelves and get to know her a little bit better!

Hey Everyone!
Thanks a lot to Amy for giving me a chance to show off my books! I am a new blogger and my blog is called “My Love Affair With Books.” Why this name? Because I have always preferred the company of books more , to humans! When I saw the previous “Show Me The Shelves ” posts, I almost felt like backtracking! Everyone’s bookshelves were so organized and pretty! I was scared….
 
I love , live and breathe books, I devour them like I am starving….BUT I am VERY disorganized !
I don’t keep all my books on shelves but in closets because there are too many of them and I want them all in my bedroom (Yes, I am paranoid!).
 
My first book was that of fairy tales , which I was gifted when I was just 6 years old.I still have it , though my sister tried to make mincemeat out of it , when I was 3.


The only book shelf I have is in my sister’s room.
 

The fascinating thing about my book closets is that it seems like a cave at times. Behind every stack of books, there are more and so on. If you stick your hands inside, you will discover more and more books. lol



I keep the books I like the most in the front and as you move behind , you will find the books I don’t like so much …(weird organizing style , I know)
 
I am a compulsive book hoarder, I can’t stop buying books. It is like an addiction! My TBR would soon start to resemble the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
 
 
Choosing just 3 books just rips apart my heart because I can think of atleast 30 favorites! But if I have to choose 3 favorites , they would be-
 
 
1. The Likeness by Tana French
Tana French’s writing is haunting. Her books always stay with you , long after you have read them. The Likeness is not only a brilliant suspense/mystery , but  is haunting too.Despite it being a huge book, I wished it had 500 pages more!

2. Birth Of Venus by Sarah Dunant
I have always loved reading about art , especially Italian artists. Birth Of Venus has the one of the best writing I have ever read. The description of the setting is so vivid and sensual. I could almost feel, taste , see and smell everything that was described.The prose is so lyrical , that I can read it again and again and again.

3. The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood
Margaret Atwood  is a genius- which is apparent from the number of times she has been nominated for and won the Booker prize. I think Blind Assassin is her best novel till date. Atwood’s novels have a unique quality to it , which not many authors can replicate. Blind Assassin is a literary fiction mixed with science fiction. Its beautiful, haunting and very original.

SHOW ME THE SHELVES SUNDAY!

Today on My Overstuffed Bookshelf, we have Kristy from The Overflowing Library 
Lets sit back and take a peek into her bookshelves!!


I hope this post goes some way to explaining the name of my blog The Overflowing Library. I have always loved books from when I was tiny. I vaguely remember my infant school teacher bringing me in extra books from home as I had read all of the ones in the school library. When I was younger I read a lot of Enid Blyton and was often found with a torch under the duvet late at night reading one of the hundreds of books I borrowed from the library.


Fast forward 20 or so years and I finally have my own library to love and fuss over.  As you can see from the montage picture our library is very much overflowing.  My husband is actually worse than I am and most of it is his. Most of shelves are his fantasy and sci fi books along with a few graphic novels, his Doctor Who collection, some main stream adult books and a few board games. There is a shelf (top right picture) of my children’s books, most of which are Enid Blyton. I can’t realistically see myself reading these again but I can’t bear to part with them ever. It’s a fab little room off the back of the kitchen which isn’t big enough to do anything else with and it work perfectly as our library – complete with huge comfy chair (I have no idea how the boys got it in there).



As you can see my own collection takes up only a fraction of the space in the library (although I have read a lot of my husband’s books as well as my own). My own collection is spilt over two bookcases. We have a “to be read” bookcase in our bedroom. My books take up the top two shelves. It is right next to my side of the bed so also has all kinds of things all over it including my lamp and random toys I have been bought. There is no order to it particularly I just thrown them all on and pick up and read what I fancy as and when.  This is the bookcase I look at lovingly before I go to sleep and it soothes me. Books I have read (or later ones in a series where I haven’t got that far – e.g. book 3 of the beautiful dead is there as I haven’t book 2 which is on my TBR shelf) are sorted into alphabetical order on my bookcase in the library. They are most young adult books, with the odd adult book thrown in (most of those are historical fiction). I am going to run out of room soon and have plans to relocate some of my husband’s stuff to the spare room to give me some more space.


I struggled long and hard to pick my favourite three books. There are so many I love (I don’t tend to keep the ones I don’t love and put them on www.readitswapit.co.uk) but in the end it came down to the ones I have reread (and will continue to reread) the most. They are presented to you by Angel (if any of your are Buffy and Angel fans and have seen the Angel episode “smile time” you’ll recognize him)

Twilight – Stephenie Meyer.
I am proud to say that I own a first edition of this book. My husband purchased it for my quite randomly one Christmas (not long after it had been published) because he thought the girl on the cover looked like me. I had never heard of it but read it and loved it and was ecstatic to find out it was one in a series of books. I have read it at least times and will probably reread again soon.

The Hunger Games – Suzanne Collins
Another book picked by my husband which I got to before him and read and loved. It is simply awesome. I read it in half a day in one sitting and then immediately ordered the second and preordered the third. I am planning to reread it very soon in time for the release of Mockingjay.

Uglies – Scott Westerfeld
I picked this up at school on one of the books fairs they had because the cover looked weird. This book literally blew me away and it is another one I have reread on numerous occasions. In my opinion this is the strongest one of the set (although I did enjoy the rest particularly Extras). I love the character Tally and the whole concept of whole built up around her. It was fast paced and engaging and well worth a read if you happen to come across a copy.

SHOW ME THE SHELVES SUNDAY!

Today on Show Me The Shelves Sunday we have Karen from My Weight Loss Journey. Let’s sit back and take a tour of her bookshelves!

When I first received the details on this guest post, I was very excited to take the pictures the next day.  When I walked into my room, camera in hand, I realized that my bookshelves had been neglected and to show them to the world would be a bit embarrassing. 

I have tried to keep each shelf a singe subject/topic/genre, but as room gets tights, books just get placed where there is room.  I have a 4th bookshelf in the living room the we also have and several other books on my Kindle app. 

I LOVE books but have a small home and finding space for my treasures is becoming difficult.  I started buying books on Kindle, and it’s a wonderful way to read, but there are many limitations.  There is something magical about seeing your little babies all lined up that I miss.  (I don’t miss the dusting of course) and not having books to share is a bummer too.  So as you can see, my book storage is full and I need to go through and maybe find a home for some of them so I can make room for some upcoming newbies.



I chose my top three books for various reasons:

Twilight: I stopped reading for several years because I was busy with babies and school.  This book reminded me how much I love reading a good book with a story that sweeps you away.  There are so many reasons I love this book.

Hunger Games: This book represents that not all books are what they seem.  I didn’t think I would like it, the summary of the book wasn’t interesting to me because it’s not the type of book I would typically be interested in, so I thought.  I began reading this book purely from recommendation and it ended up being one of my favorites.

Bran Hambric by Kaleb Nation: This is one of my favorite books because I adore the author and his bio.  He began writing this book as a 14 year old homeschooler and published it at 20. This book represents the results of hard work and perseverance.  As a home schooling family, this book reminds me how the hard work will pay off for my children some day.  I love the story, the innocence and the mystery behind the main character’s search for answers.

SHOW ME THE SHELVES SUNDAY!

Welcome to my new feature Show Me The Shelves!  This feature was inspired by Book Chick City!  Each Sunday I will feature a fellow blogger and their collection to showcase on my blog.  So sit back, enjoy the pictures that will cause you to drool, and know that you are not alone in hoarding your books!

Hey everyone! Amy asked if I wanted to share my bookshelves on her new feature. I thought why not, I had be meaning to do this post on my blog for a while but kept putting it off.  So here they are.

The first picture is one of my main bookcase. As you can see I collect more than just books. I’m a child of the 80’s and it shows when you walk into my bedroom.  Now I don’t keep every book I read or I wouldn’t have any room at all. This bookcase is mainly paperbacks. For the most part each shelf is organized alphabetically by author.  The fourth shelf down holds some of my TBR Books. These don’t fit on my TBR shelf.


This is my other main bookcase. Both the first one and this one are located in my room. These
books are mostly organized by author too.  The books are The Dark-Hunters series, Trade Paperbacks, Hardcovers and Graphic Novels/Manga.


Bookcase number 3 is located out in my hallway. This is my newest bookcase.  I got this one for review from CSN Stores.  Again organized by Author. It holds Young Adult books and some more paperbacks.

My TBR shelf. This shelf is connected to my head board.  These books consist of ones I want to read and review books. The hardcovers aren’t usually there. I normally keep them out in the hall bookcase.


And lastly Amy asked me to pick out three of my favorite books from my collection. At first I thought she was crazy and now I know she’s just evil.  Three books, the choosing was hard. Here are my picks:

Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris – This was the first Paranormal Romance book I read and it’s one of my favorite series.  I’m a big ol’ fan girl when it comes to this series. I actually have three different copies of this book.

Hunters: The Beginnings by Shiloh Walker – Hunters series is another favorite. This series introduced me to ebooks and Ellora’s Cave.  The first story in this book was the first ebook I read. I read it on my computer. I didn’t purchase the paperback until much later. I’m so glad for my Kindle and ereader.

The Mane Event by Shelly Laurenston –  This is the first book in the Pride stories. I picked this book out because this series has been my obsession of 2010.  I love these books and have said so many times on my blog. Sadly, I’ve read all the books in the series. So, now I have to wait how every long until the next one.
