SUMMARY:
As if trying to fit in at a new school isn’t stressful enough, sixteen-year-old Nikki Donovan just found out that her long-lost father is, in fact, the demon king of the Shadowlands—the world that separates and protects us from the Underworld. When she is brought there by the mysterious—and surprisingly cute—messenger Michael, she learns that her father is dying, and he wants her to assume the throne. To complicate matters, a war is brewing between the Shadowlands and the Underworld, her half-demon qualities are manifesting, and her growing feelings for Michael are completely forbidden. Ruling a kingdom, navigating a secret crush, and still making it home by curfew—what’s a teenage demon princess to do?
MY THOUGHTS:
Author Michelle Rowen never disappoints me with her fun, quirky and adorable reads! I don’t know why I waited so long to buy and review this book! It is the first book in the authors new teen line focusing on the paranormal.
We start the book off with Nikki Donovan. She is turning sixteen, has popular friends, and has just been asked by her crush to the Winter Dance. She is on cloud nine with everything in her life. She soon discovers, by a mysterious boy at school, that cloud nine is not where she belongs. She is told by this stranger that she is a demon princess. Nikki reacts like any normal person would–she runs and thinks this is a horrible joke. Nikki’s mother is on husband number four, and never met her real Father. She believes he ran off when her Mom found out she was pregnant. It turns out Nikki’s father, Desmond, is King of the Shadowlands. He keeps peace at the borders of Hell and the Human world.
Along the journey of discovery, Nikki falls for Michael–a Shadow–and must learn to control her new demonic powers. She struggles with coming to terms with being a Darkling, mixed and confusing feelings for Michael, and an Aunt she never knew she had.
I loved this book so much! I immediately went online to Amazon and ordered the next book in the series. I want to know how Nikki is going to handle being half demon/half human now that she has accepted who and what she is. I want to know more about her friends (who will shock you with a surprise or two in this book) and if she will get to see Michael and her Father again.
If you are in the mood for laugh out loud teen drama with a fiery paranormal punch to it, then this is the book for you!
