SYNOPSIS:
I have this strange sense that my silence is preparing me for something I can’t name . . .

Elizah Rayne is nothing like other fourteen-year-old girls. More interested in bird bones than people, she wraps herself in silence. Trying to escape the shadow of her gambler father, Elizah and her mother move into an old house that borders a cemetery. All her mother wants is for them to have “normal” lives. But that becomes impossible for Elizah when she finds a human jawbone by the river and meets Nathaniel, a strangely hypnotic boy who draws Elizah into his dreamlike and mysterious world.
Only by forgetting everything she knows can Elizah understand the truth about Nathaniel—and discover an unimaginable secret.
MY THOUGHTS:
I was lucky enough to participate in a blog tour of the novel Light Beneath Ferns by Anne Spollen, hosted by Liz from Cleverly Inked
In the first chapter of the book, the author does a wonderful job of sucking you into her world.  She sets up the book with great lines and makes you think outside the box.  I was excited to start reading it.
Yet, after that first chapter, my interest slid downhill.  For the first half of the book it is all about Elizah’s depression and how she can be helped into finding new friends.  It got to be boring and repetitive. I did love the witty dialogue though that comes out of Elizah.  She has a mouth like a typical young adult and she uses it as much as possible.
From then on the plot is all over and I couldn’t find myself interested in any of it. I did finish it though, so I did stick it out to the end.  The questions get answered, but not as much as they should. The characters never seemed to click for me.  While I am happy to have been included in the blog tour, this is one book I don’t think I would be buying.  This is one of those books that I recommend checking out from the library, and if it is a good book to you, then purchase it for yourself.
Next stop on the blog tour will come from Jenn at Book-Crazy
MY RATING:

I did not enjoy this book.

Awh, that’s too bad you didn’t enjoy it as much as you thought you would. I also would think this to be a good book, but I won’t be reading it if it’s boring. Thanks for your honest review.
