MY TAKE:

First of all, thank you Blanche for reviewing this book as well. When I saw your review, I just knew I had to read this book as well!

Have you ever read a romance read that after it was over you find yourself slightly crying and disappointed that the story is over? This is how this story was for me. The author did a wonderful job of creating characters you care about, and a romance you find yourself cheering for them to come together and be a couple. She obviously did her research in the department of burns and handicaps when creating the story of Luke. He had all the torment and depression that goes with the after math of his handicaps since the explosions. Abby showed all the normal grieving and second guessing of herself after a horrible breakup with her fiance. I was cheering for this couple all throughout the book and was so sad to see it end.

There is not a lot of hot and horny sex in this book. There is maybe one scene of them actually making love, but this story didn’t need it. The story gave us enough romance and at humor at times that I was glad the author didn’t fill the book up with sex scenes.

Now I just hope that the author would plan on making a follow-up book for Luke’s brother and father! She certainly left the end open for sequels, but wrapped up Luke and Abby’s story up very nicely. Another great author and find!

Steampunk Novel Thomas Riley

First off, a huge thank you to Amy for letting me come here and guest blog today. My name is Nick Valentino, and I’m currently on a blog tour in support of my first steampunk novel called Thomas Riley.

Some of you are probably thinking, “What the heck is steampunk?” Don’t worry you’re not alone. Steampunk is a relatively new genre that deals in alternative history. Oh! Hold on, keep reading. I know that seems a bit dry but here’s the twist. Steampunk is usually set in Victorian times but the world is very different. Huge leaps in technology have sparked a new scientific boom centered around, you guessed it, steam. Everything is powered by steam, science, alchemy and black powder. Forget the normal fossil fuels and electricity we’re used to, just about everything is steam. So in turn, there are massive dirigibles flying through the sky. Everyone wants to be a scientist, inventor or airship crewmember. But beware; where you have heavy air traffic you also have sky pirates, greedy privateers and a host of surly yet innovative Victorian characters. Here’s how I like to think of it, Chill 1 part Jules Verne, mix with two parts Indiana Jones, add a mixer of H.G. Wells and for flavor, add a twist of Frankenstein.

Thomas Riley is a steampunk adventure filled with airships, clockwork inventions and swashbuckling action a plenty. Here’s the back cover blurb.

For more than twenty years West Canvia and Lemuria have been at war. From the safety of his laboratory, weapons designer Thomas Riley has cleverly and proudly empowered the West Canvian forces. But when a risky alchemy experiment goes horribly wrong, Thomas and his wily assistant Cynthia Bassett are thrust onto the front lines of battle and forced into shaky alliances with murderous sky pirates in a deadly race to kidnap the only man who can undo the damage: the mad genius behind Lemuria’s cunning armaments.

THE WILDEST HEART

*I received this book free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

  • Mass Market Paperback: 736 pages
  • Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca; Reprint edition (November 3, 2009)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1402222742
  • ISBN-13: 978-1402222740

SYNOPSIS:
Passionate, Headstrong Lady Rowena Dangerfield and dark, dangerous outlaw Lucas Cord…Two destinies intertwined under the blazing New Mexico sun! Lady Rowena Dangerfield travels from the exotic palaces of India to the splendor of the Royal Court of London to the savage New Mexico frontier to lay claim to her inheritance and live freely as only she would dare. In the violent, untamed American Southwest, she finally meets a man as strong as she is: Lucas Cord, a dark, dangerously handsome, half-Apache outlaw. Fighting scandal, treachery, and murder, Luke is determined to have Rowena for his own, and as their all-consuming passion mounts, no one is going to stop him…

MY TAKE:

This historical romance was huge! Not only in story but in pages. 739 pages to be exact! Even with that many pages, I was still sad to see this story end. This was my first time reading a book by this author and I am so happy I had a chance to read it. Rowena proves to be a little hot-headed, speaks her mind and independent. I can see why the author named this book The Wildest Heart because Rowen is one wild woman with a big heart. I enjoyed reading about the struggle that each character had to work through either together or individually. This book features strong characters that will keep you captivated all the way to the last page! A very true romantic read!
