Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her “power” to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world . . . and the imprints that attach to their killers.
Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat left for her. But now that a serial killer is terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he’s claimed haunt her daily, Violet realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.
Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved by her hope that Jay’s intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she’s falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer . . . and becoming his prey herself.
WOW! I had heard so much about this book, all of it positive, that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! I was intrigued with the summary and the plot that I knew it was going to be a hard book to put down.
I am sorry to admit that my family suffered while I was reading this book. I was so into this book, they had to fend for themselves at meal time. THAT is how good this book is. I loved the characters of Violet and Jay. The writing was witty and flowed great with suspense and love weaved together perfectly. The author constantly kept leading you down one path to figuring it all out, and then she yanks you in a different direction. The suspense, intrigue and overall plot was so captivating, that you couldn’t help but tune out everything else in life just you can keep reading!
I am amazed by this author’s writing and the world she has created with this book. Who would have thought psychics who see echo’s would be so captivating? I didn’t, but I am so happy to have given it a chance — to capture me in the world of Kimberly Derting. By far, one of the better books I have read this year! I definitely will be checking out the next book in this series!
