MY THOUGHTS:
Since Eclipse is releasing this month on the big screen, I thought I would give this book a chance now. Eclipse was one of my favorite books in the Twilight saga. Even though I still wanted Midnight Sun to become the next book by this author, I guess anyone who is in love with this series will have to settle with this book for now.
I would say settling is the best way to describe this book to me. It wasn’t what I wanted and it didn’t live up to the hype around it. Maybe because I wanted a book like Twilight that will capture me and keep me reading instead of eating or sleeping. This book to me was only mediocre. I just couldn’t enjoy this book as much as I should have. To me, Bree just wasn’t a person I wanted to read about. I mean come on, give me Edward! Give me Jacob! Hell, give me Kristin Stewart as Bella over a vampire that I know is not going to be around for Breaking Dawn! I also felt that the author just didn’t give it her all with this one. The writing wasn’t as captivating as her previous books.
Overall, if you are a serious Twilight junkie, read it. It wasn’t a bad book, but it wasn’t great either. It needed something more to make it great.

My thoughts exactly. I also felt like Bree wasn’t portrayed as your “normal newborn” which was really disappointing. She was so controlled and was only 3 months old? I don’t think so! In the Twilight series we heard over and over how out of control newborns were for the first year, so for Bree to be able to think rationally around humans was just plain unbelievable.
My other beef with this story: Really? You’re going to keep Fred silent until the very end? And he turned out to be the most interesting character in the entire story. That was a major disappointment. I do feel like SM left herself wide open to start another book in the series that follows Fred!
I felt like this was a story that SM jotted down because it was a story line that she was interested in. I didn’t seem very polished or captivating which was a huge disappointment for me.
All in all, I’m glad I read it, and it was all right, just didn’t live up to my expectations.

I actually enjoyed it more than the rest of you did. I wrote a review on it last week. After reading about it around the blogosphere and speaking with people, I feel like we’re all split between mediocre and loving it.

I agree with you completely. I thought the writing was BAD…Like Jr. High bad. This one didn’t seem to have much thought put into it. I also thought Fred was the most interesting character by far! Maybe Stephenie will write a novella about him next and make millions off another half-@ssed story! Huge Twilight fan, but this one bordered on boring….

I’ve been debating whether to read this or not, but I loved Meyer’s other books so I think I might like this one. I think her Twilight series was great, but I’m no Twi-Hard so still not sure…
