MY REVIEW

Author Sarina Bowen is one of my auto-buy authors. If she has a new book coming out, I can guarantee that I either have pre-ordered it or have it on my to buy list for payday. Not only does she have some of the best writing in contemporary romance, but she has the most drool worthy covers as well! I honestly stared at “Nate” for longer than what is appropriate when getting ready to read a book.

Nate and Rebecca have been friends and coworkers for 7 years. Nate hired her as an assistant when he was just breaking out into the tech industry. Fast forward and you have Nate a billionaire who also happens to own the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey team.

When Rebecca has a fall on the ice, she is put on leave to see a doctor. After the concussion time frame has dwindled down, Rebecca is still having trouble with balance and not feeling much better. Nate decides to send her to a specialist to have this figured out. Such a nice boss to do this, but we soon find out he also has a huge crush on Rebecca.

All through the book we are treated to flashbacks of the seven years that they have worked together. We read through relationships, the business skyrocketing, and the evolving crush they both develop for each other.

I have to say that I wasn’t huge fan of the ending of this book. While it finishes with a sweet happily ever after, I felt it was a bit rushed. The conflict that was introduced for the couple was also kind of “eh”.  It didn’t bring much conflict to the relationship.

Even with the ending being a little wah-wah, The slow building romance was amazing. Let us just say that Nate may be the sweet and laid back boss you would love to work for, but the sexy and oh so demanding man in bed is hotter!

Maybe you pretend you don’t. Maybe you clear your browser history religiously. Maybe you pretend to be aghast whenever someone even mentions the word porn in your presence.

Everybody knows Logan O’Toole, world famous porn star.
Except then Devi Dare pops into my world, and pretty soon I’m doing things that aren’t like me—like texting her with flirty banter and creating an entire web porn series just so I can get to star in her bed. Again. And again.
With Devi, my entire universe shifts, and the more time I spend with her, the more I realize that Logan O’Toole isn’t the guy I thought he was.
So maybe I’m not the guy you thought I was either.

 

MY REVIEW

I can’t believe that I just read a book titled PORN STAR.

Okay, quit laughing at me. We all know it is believable. I am a smut reader at heart.

I loved this book. I was so in love with Logan! It was love at first chapter! Devi was a great character as well and had the most hilarious parents.
The one person I couldn’t stand, besides Bruce the douchecanoe, was Raven. Every single time she was getting page time, I wanted to stab my eyes out.
I still have no idea what Logan saw in Raven.

Logan is left feeling depressed and in a rut after his long term girlfriend and co-star Raven has left him for another man. She didn’t give him a reason or a goodbye and even took their pet pooch.  Logan has been going through the motions of work filming his scenes and secluding himself from others. When he finally attempts to move on and attend an industry function, he finds himself watching his ex girlfriend making a scene herself with two other guys in the middle of the party. When he goes to leave, he runs into Devi Dare by the pool. Devi Dare is the industries hot female on female actress. The only “het”, or male and female, movie she has done was with Logan and Devi. Logan and Devi both hold secret fantasies and crushes on the other.  They even use the other as the focal point of their alone time fantasies. When Logan decides to move on for good, he concocts a plan to include Devi as his next partner in a reality based porn series. Of course the two fall in love during the process but then a whole new set of problems arise.  They find themselves questioning how to make a relationship will work without jealousy and hurt feelings. Logan never felt this way when he was with Raven, so they didn’t have many boundaries. Finding himself in a new situation is hard for Logan to figure out and he likes to compartmentalize his feelings while Devi finds it hard to do that.  She can’t seem to separate work and personal life. Finding the balance and the way to make their relationship work is the true heart of this story. Honestly, don’t let the title of Porn Star scare you away from this book.

Also, can we just mention that art gallery scene again?! Oh to be that old woman who got a visual. MMMmmmm.

A great read for all you smut readers out there!

Man oh man.

This is one of those books where you really want to rate it higher because it was “reading crack”, but you also had some problems with it to lower it down. Since I am having a hard time with the rating, I am going to give it a middle score of 3 with a list of pro’s and con’s.

PRO-Lucas/Gage
CON- Shyann

PRO- first story I have read with a main character and multiple POV with this disorder.
CON- sometimes the two personalities were too Good vs. Evil

PRO- it kept my interest until the end with the “reading crack”. I HAD to know what happened.
CON- A little predictable, but the downfalls of the story is what made it so addicting!

PRO- The epilogue
CON- The constant reminder and career whining Shyann puts the reader through.

PRO- The cover
CON- Dustin and Trevor (technically that is two cons, but whatever.)

Beau is the sexiest guy she’s ever seen, and even though he’s dangerous, Ashton is drawn to him.

Beau loves his cousin like a brother, so the last thing he wants to do is make a move on Sawyer’s girl. Ashton is off-limits, absolutely. That’s why he does his best to keep his distance, even though he’s been in love with her forever. When Ashton wants to rekindle their childhood friendship in Sawyer’s absence, Beau knows he should say no.

Ashton and Beau don’t want to hurt Sawyer. But the more they try to stay away from each other, the more intense their urges become. It’s getting way too hard to resist..

Where do I even start? I really wanted to enjoy this story after so many people on Goodreads had rated it with high marks.  I am in that lower percentile that didn’t have such high praise for it.

The writing wasn’t too bad.  The author had some great writing and narration.  Heck, even most of the dialogue wasn’t that bad.  I think it was the flat out cheating that bothered me the most. I am not a fan of stories with cheating involved. I don’t like cheating in real life and I certainly don’t want to read about cheating.  Yes, sometimes it is not so black and white and might be able to work in a fictional world, if the author handles it very carefully.  Well, I was disappointed with the way this one was handled.  It seemed that right off the bat the main characters were getting it on and moved straight into the no-fly zone. I also was about ready to pull my hair out if I had to read how perfect Sawyer was on almost every other page.

The characters were frustrating and seemed not to have any sensible values whatsoever.  Perfect Ashton (who happens to be the preachers daughter). Perfect Sawyer. Bad boy Beau (which everyone in town looks down on). Like I said, the writing was decent, but the story and characters were not.

Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

 

I have had this book waiting to be read for at least a year now.  A friend had passed it on to me and it sounded like an okay read to me, but it kept getting pushed back in the pile. There are a few things that I didn’t enjoy about the book and I will admit that one or two things is superficial and in no way regarding the writing. For example, The Cover. Not a fan. It is too much focus on a barely there male chest.It is snowing and you happen you have your shirt wide open. Maybe that is to distract us from the fact that he is in desperate need of a haircut. So those are my superficial gripes about the book.

Lets talk the relationship between Kyler and Syd. We basically have a bad boy who thinks with his penis instead of his brain. Then we have the constant damsel in distress that can’t seem to do anything by herself. Oh and a previous boyfriend who happened to call her frigid in bed the one and only time she had sex is her favorite thing to go on about.

Overall, lets just say that I made it to the last page. Was it a struggle? Yes. Would I read it again or really recommend it to anyone? Probably not.
