SUMMARY
(From Goodreads)

All Tara Jean has to do is play the part of a gold-digging fiancée to lure Lyle’s estranged children home. The mission is soon accomplished.

Now Lyle’s gone—and his ridiculously handsome son, Luc, an ice hockey superstar sidelined by injuries, is the new owner of Crooked Creek ranch. He’s also Tara Jean’s boss. But being so close to sinfully sweet Tara Jean does crazy things to Luc’s priorities, like make him want to pry her deepest secrets from those irresistible lips. But when Tara Jean’s past demands a dirty showdown, will Luc stay and fight?

MY THOUGHTS

I am still laughing at the plot of this book.  I don’t know if it was the writing, the characters or the whole scheme that has me shaking my head in displeasure with this read.

I had a really hard time getting into this story from the first page.  It felt forced, the characters were one dimensional, and there was hardly any spark between the two main characters.  I knew about 50 pages into the story that it was not going to get much better.  Even with the story problems and such, I kept reading hoping for the best.

I still cannot remember one thing I liked about this book.  Oh wait!  The cover has to be my favorite thing.  Those peek at me abs were very sexy, but the romance inside was not.  This is true to the saying of don’t judge a book by its cover.  The story was boring, the characters still didn’t have any type of personality by the end and left this reader wondering what the heck I read.

Overall, this one was a failure for me.  I did finish the story but it left me with no excitement for a follow up in the series.

MY RATING

I did not like this book at all!

MY THOUGHTS

I am having a really hard time trying to figure out how to put the thoughts in my head about this book into some sort of review.  Was the writing good? Yes.  Was the story plot good? Yes.  Was it my cup of tea so to speak? No.

I have always tried to stay away from the Harlequin books that feature stories from far away lands for the simple fact that it throws me into culture shock.  I should be able to adjust to it since I do read paranormal and they are really out there sometimes.   I just have a hard time wrapping my mind around some of the differences in customs from different areas of the world. With that being said,  I caved and decided to give it a try to expand my reading experiences.

The author did have a good grasp on writing style.  The words and story flowed at an easy pace.  The story itself was one that I had a hard time enjoying.  I wasn’t a fan of the way the heroine had hopes and dreams but was forced into doing another thing.  Again, I think it was just the way the culture and customs are that made me not enjoy this story as much as a regular reader of this story line. I would read something by this author though again if it is in a different setting because her writing did flow nicely and beautifully.

MY RATING

If the library doesn’t have it, don’t worry about reading it!

Hell On Wheels

Author: Julie Ann Walker

Genre: Adult Romantic Suspense

SUMMARY
(From Goodreads)

He’s the bad boy she’s always wanted…

Nate “Ghost” Weller has loved Ali Morgan nearly half his life. But he’s done something so heinous he’s convinced she’ll never forgive him if she discovers the truth, so he keeps his feelings and his secrets to himself. Then she blows into town with a mother lode of bad guys on her tail and Nate can’t deny she’s in serious trouble. Unfortunately, he’s the only one who can help her.

She’s the good girl he’s kept at arm’s length…

Ali knows Nate as the most solemn, aloof man on the planet. Sadly, he’s also the sexiest. For years she’s avoided him, unable to stomach his dark scowls and brooding silences… especially when she secretly yearns for his touch. Now she must rely on him to save her from the malevolent shadows ghosting her every move. When the bullets explode, so does their passion. But can love really conquer all? Or are some things just too terrible to forgive?

MY THOUGHTS

Hell On Wheels is the first book in the Black Knights Inc. series.  Author Julie Ann Walker has brought the reader and action packed romantic suspense to keep you interested until the last page.

When I was first notified of this new series,  I was excited to find a new author to add to my reading list.  If you are looking for a book full of action, suspense, hot romance and edginess to keep you going, then Hell On Wheels fills all of this listed.  I really enjoyed the writing style and the characters.  The heroine was a little over the top, but I took it in stride and enjoyed the story.

I will mention that this book does fall into the trap of first books in a series.  It seemed to be over abundant in characters and scene building.  Unfortunately when going into a series, you have to come to expect the author in trying to push everything onto the reader at once.  Hopefully this will be something that is cleared up before the next books are released.  I really want to enjoy the next book and don’t want to be bogged down by all the replay of it again.

There are also scenes in the book that will bring tears to your eyes, so be warned.  This is a good thing though in knowing that the writing is done well enough to be able to pull you into that emotional turmoil.
While the book was not one of my favorites,  I am anxious to start the next one when it releases.  A quick paced read and one with great story.

MY RATING

Very Good! I would recommend this book!
